ICT as Information Tools
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is a valuable learning tool that uses electronic media like text, graphics, sound, images, and videos to deliver a lot of information to learners. ICT allows learners to access a lot of resources on the internet and other digital mediums, which evokes self-learning and curiosity. From my experience as a student, I’ve found that videos and animations make learning easier and more interesting. For example, watching a video about volcanic eruptions helped me understand the process better than reading from a textbook.
Images and visuals also play a big role in helping me remember information. The ancient saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" is true, especially in the classroom when images can better explain abstract things. As a prospective teacher, I plan to utilize ICT tools in various ways to improve learning. I may start a lesson with a video or animation to catch students' attention. Next, I would invite them to find the topic online, rewrite it in their words, and summarize it by working on innovative projects like posters or presentations incorporating text, image, and audio.
The uses of ICT for education are numerous. It benefits different styles of learning either visually, hearing or conducting researches. It is a promoter of useful skills such as research work and critical thinking. ICT gives them the option to find things by themselves and link up with modern content. There are a couple of drawbacks, however. Pupils may get sidetracked from the use of the web, frittering their time away on inappropriate material. Not every learner will have a home computer or an internet connection, which will create unequal chances. In addition, there is the risk of information overload—students might have trouble sorting through all the information available without guidance.
To overcome these obstacles, I will help students choose good resources and stay focused while online. I will also try to integrate ICT tools with traditional approaches, so that all students can learn, even if they do not have equal access to technology at home. As far as there's good planning and classroom management, I believe ICT can significantly improve students' learning experience. Despite some disadvantages, I'm sure ICT can facilitate interactive, engaging, and more effective learning if used properly.
